Support for seizure-related concerns

Seizure care is not one-size-fits-all. During a virtual neurology visit, your provider will review your history, better understand your seizure pattern, discuss your current treatment, and determine appropriate next steps.

New or ongoing seizure concerns

Breakthrough seizures or changes in seizure patterns

Review of current, daily anti-seizure and immediate-use (rescue) medications

Questions about treatment options and medication management

Development or review of a seizure action plan

Ongoing follow-up and coordination with existing clinicians

There are different types of seizure medications. Some are taken daily to help prevent seizures, while others may be used as needed to stop episodes of frequent seizures. A healthcare provider can help determine which treatment options may be appropriate for the patient.

How it works

1. Schedule online

Enter the patient’s demographics, location, and insurance information, then choose an available appointment.

2. Meet by video

Connect with a TeleMed2U neurology provider from home, in an eligible state. A partner can join when appropriate.

3. Receive next steps

Receive personalized recommendations, which may include treatment options, testing, follow-up care, or additional referrals.

What to expect during the appointment

  • Review of the patient’s medical and seizure history, including the treatment goals of the patient
  • Discussion of seizure frequency, duration, patterns, triggers, and recovery
  • Review of current medications, prior treatments, allergies, and side effects
  • Assessment of the patient’s current care needs and safety considerations
  • Discussion of appropriate treatment options and follow-up needs
  • Coordination with an existing neurologist, primary care clinician, pharmacy, or other care team members when appropriate

The provider may recommend additional testing or in-person care when a virtual visit alone is not sufficient. Any medication decision, including whether medication can be prescribed, is based on the provider’s independent medical judgment and applicable requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Emergencies

Is this an emergency service?

No. TeleMed2U provides scheduled specialty care and does not replace emergency services. Call 911 for a seizure lasting longer than five minutes, repeated seizures without recovery, breathing difficulty, serious injury, a first-time seizure, a seizure in water, or any situation that appears life-threatening.

Getting started

Who is this service for?

This scheduling pathway is intended for adults age 18 and older to complete for themselves or on behalf of a patient who want to speak with a neurology provider about seizures, epilepsy, breakthrough seizure concerns, current treatment, or ongoing seizure care.

Can a partner schedule the appointment?

Yes. A partner or family member may help schedule for a loved one. Use the patient’s information throughout registration. The patient must participate in the visit, and the partner may join when appropriate and with the patient’s permission.

Can a partner attend the video visit?

Yes, when appropriate. Partners can provide helpful observations about seizure episodes, medications, and recovery. The provider may also need time to speak directly with the patient.

Does the patient need to be in a particular state?

The patient must be physically located in a state where an appropriately licensed TeleMed2U provider is available at the time of the appointment. Available appointment options may vary based on the patient’s location.

What technology is needed?

The patient needs a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable internet connection. Join from a private, well-lit location whenever possible.

What should we have ready for the appointment?

Have the patient’s preferred pharmacy information, medication list, allergies, seizure history, and relevant records available.

Your visit

What can be addressed during a virtual seizure-care visit?

The provider can review seizure history and patterns, current and prior medications, breakthrough episodes, treatment concerns, and follow-up needs. The provider may also discuss testing, referrals, safety planning, or coordination with the patient’s existing care team.

Can TeleMed2U help if I already have a neurologist?

Yes. A visit may be used for an independent evaluation or to address a specific seizure-related need. When appropriate, TeleMed2U can coordinate with the patient’s existing neurologist or other clinicians to support continuity and avoid fragmented care.

Can TeleMed2U become my ongoing neurology provider?

Yes. TeleMed2U can serve as your ongoing neurology provider, helping you manage your condition over time through follow-up visits, medication management, and personalized care. Our goal is to help patients establish consistent access to specialty neurology care when ongoing treatment and monitoring are needed.

Will testing be ordered?

The provider may recommend laboratory testing, EEG, imaging, or an in-person evaluation based on the patient’s clinical needs. Orders and follow-up steps will be discussed during or after the visit.

Will follow-up visits be required?

Follow-up visits may be recommended based on your diagnosis, symptoms, treatment plan, and ongoing care needs. Many anti-seizure medications, including those that are controlled substances, require ongoing clinical monitoring. Patients receiving ongoing treatment or prescription refills should expect periodic follow-up visits to help ensure safe, effective, and appropriate care.

Medications

Can the provider prescribe medication?

When clinically appropriate, providers may prescribe medication after completing an independent evaluation. A prescription is not guaranteed. The decision depends on the patient’s medical history, current medications, clinical needs, physical location, and applicable requirements.

What is the difference between daily and rescue seizure medications?

Daily anti-seizure medications are generally used to help reduce the likelihood of seizures over time. Rescue medications may be used in certain circumstances to treat specific acute seizure episodes or clusters. The provider can explain the role of each and determine what may be appropriate for the patient.

Will I receive a specific medication?

No medication or treatment is promised through this scheduling pathway. The provider will discuss options and determine an appropriate plan based on independent medical judgment.

What does it mean if my medication is a controlled substance?

Some seizure medications are classified as controlled substances and are subject to additional prescribing and monitoring requirements. If you are prescribed a controlled substance, your provider may require periodic follow-up visits to assess your response to treatment, review any side effects or changes in your condition, and determine whether continued treatment is appropriate.

Cost and coverage

Do I need a referral?

Many patients do not need a referral, but some insurance plans may require one. The scheduling process will collect coverage information and identify any additional steps that may be needed.

Can I use insurance?

TeleMed2U accepts many insurance plans. Coverage, provider participation, and patient responsibility vary by plan and location. A self-pay option is available when insurance is not accepted or the patient prefers not to use insurance.

How much does a visit cost?

With insurance, the cost depends on the patient’s benefits, deductible, copay, coinsurance, and network status. Current self-pay pricing is $229 for an initial visit, and $129 for a follow-up visit.

Are financial assistance programs available for medication costs?

Some medications have patient support, affordability, or financial assistance resources available for eligible individuals. If you have questions about medication costs or available support programs, please speak with your provider or contact our care team at (855) 446-8628. We can help direct you to available resources and support options when appropriate.
